The classroom
When nobody comes for a child
The queue that opens when a learner in your class is still waiting past the school's pickup time — what it tells you, the two things you can do about it, and the one thing only the office can do.
Every school sets a time by which children are expected to have been collected. When one of yours is still on the premises after it, the platform opens a record about that child and keeps it open until somebody says what happened. Late pickups in your menu is where those records live, and it shows you only the children in the classes assigned to you.
What a row is telling you
Each row is one child, and it leads with the thing you need first: how far past the school’s pickup time they now are. Under it sit the facts you would otherwise have to go and find — when they arrived on the premises this morning, and whether anybody has already reached a guardian about collecting them. A row that says nobody has been contacted yet is telling you that the call has not been made, not that it failed.
The colour is deliberate. A child still waiting is amber: this needs attention, and it is not yet an emergency. Amber stays amber however long the wait, because a wait is not the same thing as an escalation that has itself gone unanswered.
The two things you can do
Log the contact. When you have phoned or messaged a guardian, record it. This is not paperwork: it is what stops the next person picking the same record up and making the same call, and it is what the office reads when it decides whether to escalate. You can add a short note — what actually happened is more useful than the fact that you tried.
Mark the child collected. When the child has been handed over, close the record. It leaves your queue and settles as collected. A settled record is final: once it says a child was collected, nothing may be added to it afterwards, which is why the buttons disappear from a row that has already been closed.
Where your authority ends
Escalating a late pickup to the school office is a school administrator’s action, not yours. Your queue does not offer it, and that is deliberate — an escalation sends for people, and the decision to do that belongs with the office. If you have contacted the guardians and nobody is coming, contact the office directly; the note you logged is what they will read when they get there.
When the record says the child has already gone
Schools also set a hard closing time. When it passes, the platform records anyone still showing as on the premises as having departed — not because anybody watched them leave, but because leaving a child showing as present on the premises overnight is the more dangerous mistake of the two.
That record and this queue can both be true at the same time, and the row says so when it is: it tells you the child was recorded as departed at closing time, and that nobody saw them go. The alert stays open on purpose. A child who has been presumed to have left has not been shown to have been collected, and closing a safety record on the platform’s own guess is how a child stops being looked for. Keep looking, and close the record yourself when you know what actually happened.
